New here? Here is exactly what to expect at your first dental visit with Fleming Dental in Durham, so you can walk in knowing what is coming and feeling at ease.

A visit to Fleming Dental does not feel rushed. We take the time to understand what you want, explain things in plain language, and answer your questions before we do anything.
We care about the person in the chair first, and the dentistry second. Whether it has been six months or several years since your last visit, you will be met without judgment and treated with genuine care.
Before you arrive
Complete your new patient forms online, so your visit starts on time
Bring a valid photo ID, and your insurance card if you have one
Bring a list of any medications you take
Arrive a few minutes early to settle in
For new patients, we like to start with a short phone call before your first appointment, to make sure we are the right fit and to answer any questions. When you reach out, we will set that up.
WHAT TO EXPECT
We greet you, get you settled, and make sure your paperwork is squared away.
We talk through your health history, your goals, and anything on your mind. We listen before we look.
A careful look at your teeth, gums, and bite, with digital X-rays when needed and an oral cancer screening.
If your schedule and your gum health allow, your hygienist will clean and polish your teeth at the same visit.
We walk you through what we found, in plain language, and give you a clear estimate before anything is scheduled. No pressure, no surprises.
Plan ahead
Most first visits run 90 minutes. That gives us time to do things thoroughly and unhurried, the way good care should be.
Good to know
Will I get a cleaning at my first visit?
Often, yes. If your schedule allows and your gums are healthy, we will clean your teeth at the same visit. If you need more involved gum care, we will plan that separately.
What should I bring?
A photo ID, your insurance card if you have one, and a list of any medications. Completing your forms online ahead of time helps too.
I have not been to a dentist in a while. Is that okay?
Completely. Many of our patients come in after a long gap. You will be met without judgment, and we will start wherever you are.
What if I am nervous?
Tell us. We are known for a calm, unhurried approach, and we will go at your pace and explain everything as we go.
