HOW IT WORKS
We review your dental and medical history, any changes since your last visit, and any concerns you want to discuss. We listen before we look.
A thorough exam of your teeth, gums, bite, and soft tissue, including a check for any signs of oral cancer or abnormal tissue.
X-rays are taken as needed to give us a complete diagnostic picture of what is happening between and beneath the teeth.
Your hygienist removes plaque and tartar buildup, polishes the teeth, and sends you home with a clear picture of your oral health.
A comprehensive dental exam includes a thorough review of your dental and medical history, a full-mouth look at your teeth, gums, jaw, and bite, digital X-rays as needed, a check for any signs of oral cancer or abnormal tissue, and a conversation about your goals and anything you have noticed since your last visit. Our goal at every exam is not just to look, but to listen.
Even careful brushers and flossers leave tartar behind in places a toothbrush cannot reach, especially along the gumline and between the teeth. A professional cleaning removes that buildup before it can lead to gum disease or cavities, and finishes with a polish.
Most patients do well with a cleaning and exam every six months. If you have a history of gum disease, a higher cavity risk, or active issues, we may suggest coming in more often. There is no one-size-fits-all schedule, so we recommend what makes sense for you.
Our hygienists, Julie and Austin, are both skilled and genuinely warm. They go at a pace that is comfortable for you, explain what they are finding as they go, and send you home with a clear picture of your oral health.
Both are trained at UNC Chapel Hill, and both are known for putting patients at ease and taking the time to teach. They make each cleaning feel comfortable and unhurried.
Regular exams and cleanings are the single best investment you can make in your long-term oral health.
